PowerPoint (.pptx) · what this error means and every free fix to try first

PowerPoint found a problem with content in yourfile. PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation.

What's actually wrong

One or more slide XML parts are damaged. Slide text usually survives; complex layouts, embedded media and animations in the damaged slides are the usual casualties.

Free fixes — try these first

  1. Click Repair — worth trying, works for mild damage.
  2. Try inserting the slides into a fresh deck: New presentation → Home → New Slide → Reuse Slides → browse to the damaged file.
  3. Check cloud Version History if the file syncs to OneDrive/Google Drive.
  4. Try LibreOffice Impress.

If the free fixes fail

If PowerPoint's repair fails, we can usually still pull the slide text out of the surviving XML — you lose the design, not the words.
